Senior Cloud Network and Migration Engineer

Reports to: Director of Platform Services

Function: Service Delivery

Location: US-Remote-Central or Eastern Timezone Preferred - (can reside in the following states: CA, TX, FL, GA, TN, NC, IN, IL)

Role Purpose

The purpose of the Senior Cloud Network and Migration Engineer is to design, develop, implement and manage Datacentre to AWS cloud Migration.  This role will utilize a strong understanding of cloud platforms, best practices, and security protocols to ensure the reliability, scalability and efficiency of cloud-based systems and lead large scale migrations to the cloud.

Must have experience migrating at least 500VM’s per customer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure and Migration Design:

    • Design and deploy AWS Landing Zones with LZA or Terraform

    • Design and configure cloud Networking

    • Design and implement scalable, secure, and reliable AWS cloud solutions. Azure, or Google Cloud experience would be an added advantage but not required.

    • Architect systems that meet business and technical requirements.

    • Design and build migration plans.

    • Build detailed test and validation plans.

    • Build and deploy enterprise grade landing zone

    • Very Familiar with AWS MGN tool

  • Leadership, Collaboration and Support:

    • Derive Migration and Wave planning

    • Lead discovery meetings with application and business owners

    • Lead/collaborate with software developers, DevOps teams, and IT staff to integrate cloud solutions and derive solution to complex migration challenges.

    • Lead Migration teams and spearhead project from Discovery to Post Migration support

    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for cloud infrastructure.

  • Deployment and Automation: 

    • Lead migration of physical and virtual servers from data centers to cloud.

    • Lead migration of databases to the cloud.

    • Automate deployment processes and operational workflows.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Data Center Knowledge:

    • Past Experience and Knowledge of on-prem datacenter operations and management is an added advantage.

  • Monitoring, Test and Optimization:

    • Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability, and cost efficiency.

    • Lead testing and validation process for multiple projects.

    • Optimize cloud resources to improve performance and minimize costs through tools. like AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Trusted Advisor, and implementing best practices for cost-effective resource utilization.

  • Security and Compliance: 

    • Implement cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and vulnerability assessments.

    • Ensure cloud infrastructure complies with industry standards and regulations.

  • Innovation and Evaluation: 

    • Stay up to date with emerging cloud technologies and best practices.

    • Evaluate new tools and solutions to improve system performance and security.

    • Maintain expertise in AWS networking concepts, including Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), VPNs, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, Route 53, Security Groups, and Network ACLs.

    • Maintain expertise in AWS security best practices, identity and access management (IAM), encryption, security groups, and network ACLs. Knowledge of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles and policies.

Proficiencies, Skills, and Experience

  • 10+ years' experience building, running, and troubleshooting Infrastructure in On-premise Data Center + AWS Cloud

  • 1+ year experience building AWS landing zones is a must.

  • 3+ years’ experience migrating server infrastructure (Physical and VMWare based) from datacenter to cloud is a must.

  • 3+ years' experience with IaC tools Terraform/Ansible preferred but not required

  • 5-7+ years' experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services) is required preferably as AWS Infrastructure Engineer or AWS Network Engineer.

  • 5-7+ years' experience with Unix / Linux and Microsoft Windows required.

  • 5-7+ years’ experience with networking and security (e.g., TCP/IP, IPSec, NAT/Firewall rules) preferred.

  • Experience with Terraform and CDK

  • Experience with NIST SP800-171.

  • Experience administering Atlassian tools (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence, Bamboo)

  • Proven hands-on experience with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Azure and Google Cloud would be good to have).

  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.

  • Understanding of cloud networking concepts (VPC, DNS, load balancers, etc.)

  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and multi-cloud strategies.

  • Knowledge of database services and database migration experience would be good to have.

  • Experience with serverless computing and microservices architecture.

  • Technical proficiency including systems experience, strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and issue management in a multi-platform environment

  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively handle projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Security and Cloud certifications preferred (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Administrator, Google Cloud Professional Engineer).
